2 Corinthians 3: 12-18
Since we have such a hope, we are very bold, not like Moses, who would put a veil over his face so that the Israelites might not gaze at the outcome of what was being brought to an end. But their minds were hardened. For to this day, when they read the old covenant, that same veil remains unlifted, because only through Christ it is taken away. Yes, to this day whenever Moses is read a veil lies over their hearts. But when one turns to the Lord, the veil is removed. Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. And we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another. For this comes from the Lord who is the Spirit.
Because we live under the new covenant, it's so hard to imagine what it would be like to be an Israelite. I can read through the Old Testament and watch the Israelites mess up time after time, turning to idols after all that God did to make Himself known to them. It looks just foolish to me... but I, unlike the Israelites, have that Holy presence of God living inside of me. It's not just in my midst, but it's literally inside of me! Will I ever fully grasp the reality that God Himself, the maker of Heaven & Earth, made His home in me?? Wow!
Moses' face was veiled, as he lived under the old covenant. Through the new covenant, I am free to turn my face to the Lord and have that veil completely removed! I have access to the freedom for which God created me... freedom from guilt & shame, freedom from condemnation & from the chains of sin, freedom to enter the Holy of Holies & walk into the loving presence of God. True freedom. Freedom to be transformed from one degree of glory to another. Wow!
Father transform me to be like you--one degree of glory to the next!
PS... I like 1st & 2nd Corinthians!
